OUR STORY
About Gwylltcalon

WHO WE ARE
A kennel built from family life.
Gwylltcalon began with a lifelong love of Golden Retrievers and the desire to raise dogs with the qualities that make them so special to live with: a generous nature, sound health, useful intelligence and beautiful breed type.
We are based in County Durham and keep the programme small. That gives us time to know each dog, understand the records behind them and stay involved with the people who bring a Gwylltcalon puppy home.
WHY GOLDEN RETRIEVERS
The breed belongs in ordinary life.
We love the Golden Retriever for the way the breed can move between a walk, a training session, a busy household and a quiet evening at home. The best version of that versatility still needs guidance, time and honest expectations.
That is why our pages are arranged around real questions: what a dog is like, what the health results say, how the pedigree fits into the decision and how a puppy is prepared for the next home.

THE NAME
HEART • TEMPERAMENT • LEGACY
In Welsh, “gwyllt” means wild and “calon” means heart. Together, Gwylltcalon reflects the lively spirit and wholehearted character we love in Golden Retrievers.
The phrase is a useful reminder, not a substitute for evidence: the dogs, their health records, their pedigrees and the homes they will live in all matter when a decision is made.
LOOKING AHEAD
Small in scale, serious about the future.
Know the dogs.
We remain focused on understanding each dog as an individual, from temperament and daily life to health and pedigree.
Share the record.
We believe families should be able to understand the health testing, pedigree information and reasoning behind each pairing.
Stay connected.
Our responsibility continues beyond collection, with ongoing support for the dogs we breed and the families who welcome them home.
