HEALTH & PEDIGREES

Responsible breeding begins long before a litter is born. Health testing, pedigree research, temperament and compatibility all form part of how a pairing is planned.

READ THE RECORD

Evidence first, explanations alongside it.

The results below are shown as recorded for Daphne, the Gwylltcalon dam, and Bonzo, the chosen sire. They are important information, not medical guarantees, and should be read with the current certificates and veterinary advice.

UNDERSTANDING THE TESTS

Simple explanations, without medical promises.

Open the topics that are relevant to you. The individual certificates remain the source for each dog's current result.
Hip scoring

Each hip is scored separately and the two figures are added to give a total. A result is one part of a breeding decision and should be read alongside the full veterinary record.

Elbow grading

The two-number result records the left and right elbow grades. The recorded grade is specific to the examination and does not predict every future joint problem.

GR-PRA1 and GR-PRA2

These are DNA tests for two inherited retinal conditions seen in Golden Retrievers. Clear means that the tested result did not identify the relevant variant on that report.

ICT-A

This DNA test looks for the variant associated with ichthyosis type A. A clear result is recorded for the tested dog; it is not a guarantee of overall health.

PLA / gonioscopy

Gonioscopy examines the drainage angle of the eye. The grade recorded on the certificate is considered with other eye information when a pairing is planned.

Eye testing

A veterinary eye examination records what was seen on the date of the examination. The certificate date and result should always be checked as part of the current record.
